Friends’ Central’s fall sports season has come to an end, and the winter season is up and running. The Varsity Boys Basketball team is off to a great start. They have won eleven out of their thirteen games. Friends School League play began with a close game: an impressive win over Westtown on January 5, 73-69. Varsity Girls Basketball is also having a strong season. They currently have a 13-6 record and have won six games out of their last seven (again, at the time this article was written). They also won the Boo Williams Holiday Classic, 51-42, on December 30. January 19 is Spirit Night, when both of these teams will play against Shipley. Girls varsity will play first at 6:30 PM, and boys varsity will play second at 8:00 PM.

Both varsity swimming teams have started their seasons well. Varsity boys swimming currently has a 1-1 record, while varsity girls swimming is still undefeated. Both of these teams have important meets against Friends’ Select on January 18th.

Both indoor track varsity teams are beginning their season on a high note. Boys varsity has competed in four races so far, while girls varsity has competed in five races. So far, the track season is highlighted by an excellent performance at the Ocean Breeze Holiday Festival by Quin Stovall ‘24, Jade Nichols ‘26, Neenah Trusty ‘27, and Jaya Adams ‘27, who set the record for fastest high school relay team in the country. Congratulations to them on their outstanding achievements!

Varsity wrestling has competed in four matches so far, highlighted by a win, 30-27, over Springside Chestnut Hill. They have important matches coming up against Academy of the New Church, Episcopal, and Penn Charter.

Varsity Squash is also underway. Varsity Boys Squash has played two matches so far, and they are coming up on an important match against Germantown Friends. Varsity Girls Squash has played three matches so far, including a close match against Conestoga High School. Their next match will be against Baldwin.

Overall, the Friends’ Central winter sports season is going very well. Congratulations to the players on their successful seasons and good luck to these teams for the rest of the winter season!
