It was recently announced that Brett Blackiston will step into the role of associate athletic director for student-athlete success. He started at FCS in 2021 as a mental health counseling intern. Many people also know him as a sports counselor, a role he has filled during the past two years. Brett has a strong background in sports. In his childhood, he played high-level soccer in addition to baseball and volleyball. He also has experience coaching numerous sports, including soccer, tennis, basketball, and swimming. Alongside this, he works in sports psychology, supporting athletes by maximizing their athletic performances through their mindsets, and he continues to find time to play soccer in a men’s league. At FCS, he works with RISE and QUAKE, two important initiatives that cultivate both student-athlete leadership and school spirit regarding athletics.

Brett says he loves the values-driven work ethic of FCS and how supportive the school community has been of his efforts to connect counseling and athletics. Throughout his time here so far, he has noticed that his work has increasingly extended beyond his office on the second floor of the library. He feels that his new position is a natural progression of his trajectory thus far, and he is very excited for the opportunity to expand the scope of his work with student-athletes, coaches, and teams. He appreciates that he will be able to utilize more of the systems in place at FCS to support student-athletes’ mental health and wellness.

When he is not offering support to students in his office, teaching health classes, or bringing down the house at holiday assemblies, Brett will be at the forefront of shaping the culture of the FCS community through athletics!
