Mug Cakes for a Cause

By: Allison Foley (Reporter ‘21)

Now, more than ever, it is important to help others. Whether it's your friends, family or members of the community, there are people all over our area who have been struggling during this pandemic. Members of the Friends’ Central Service Committee are trying to help the community in this difficult time. The Committee has decided to fundraise for the Support Center for Child Advocates as their winter project. The Support Center for Child Advocates is an organization committed to helping children who are victims of abuse and neglect. The center has the goal of “securing safety, justice, well-being and a permanent, nurturing environment for every child.”

To raise money for this organization, Service Committee has been selling Mug Cakes. With the risk of Covid-19 transmission, in-person bake sale fundraisers are no longer a possibility. However, these mug cakes are an alternative way to donate to a good cause and get a sweet treat, too.

The mug cake comes with an upcycled mug, donated by members of the Friends’ Central community, cake mix, and a recipe card instructing users on how to make an easy, DIY mug cake. Distanced and wearing masks, the committee plans to gather to assemble these mug cakes. With COVID-19 still very much a concern, they are making sure that the assembly of these mug cakes is sanitary and they are safe to distribute.

A small donation for the Support Center goes a long way, and the Service Committee thanks anyone who made a donation, large or small. Your contribution can change a child’s life!
