For the class of 2021, it is safe to say that this was not the senior year they were expecting. Due to Covid-19, lots of the senior year traditions have been cancelled, but that doesn’t mean they have given up. Senior Committee, a club composed of members of the senior class, has made it their mission to make this last year of theirs special, no matter what. The group meets weekly over Zoom to discuss ways in which the class can bond and celebrate their last year, while staying safe and social distancing.
In September, one of the first events that the Senior Committee planned was the Senior Sunrise. The seniors woke up at the crack of dawn and met at Penn Wynne Park to all watch the sunrise together. Each person brought a blanket and a mask, and they listened to music while the sun rose. The event was a great way for the class to see people they may not have seen in months.
The Senior Sunrise was such a success that the Senior Committee planned another event. Although the things that can be done in person are definitely limited, the committee was able to set up an outdoor movie night. A few weeks ago, the class of 2021, met at Jordan Hoppy’s house to watch Ratatouille. Thanks to Leah Anderson, the committee was able to get a projector and screen big enough to show the movie to everyone. The seniors gathered with, once again, their own blankets and masks (and some very warm clothes) to watch the movie and chat with one another.
The Senior Committee continues to plan new events, both virtual and in person, to bring the grade together. They hope that despite the circumstances, they can make this last year together a year to remember.
