This year, the Friends’ Central School English department is joined by Sarah Nourie, and she is very excited to be a part of our community! Sarah teaches 10th and 12th grades and is also the faculty advisor for the School Service Committee. Sarah became a teacher because she wanted to do work where she would be making a difference. She chose to major in literature and creative writing, with a minor in studio art, at Kenyon college. After graduating, Sarah spent six years teaching first at Abington Friends School and then at the Meadowbrook School of Weston. She decided to come to FCS because she missed the strong Friends school community she had grown up with as a student at both Germantown Friends School and Abington Friends School. So far Sarah has been really happy and impressed with how honest and thoughtful the students are at FCS!Â
Outside of school, Sarah loves spending time with her husband and son. She enjoys writing, drawing, and painting. A couple of books that she really loves are Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson, Beloved by Toni Morrison, and Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh. Currently, Sarah is working hard to earn her master’s degree in creative writing!Â
