Led by Grace Kenworthy ‘25, Zoe Hayton ‘25, and Amelia Burns ‘25, Sustainability Club aims to spread awareness about issues surrounding various environmental topics such as the climate, composting, and recycling. Always pushing toward change, it focuses on how we can be more environmentally aware at Friends’ Central and in the wider world. By raising money through bake sales, posting information on Instagram, creating newsletters, and inviting speakers to educate our school community further, Sustainability Club hopes to reach as many people as possible. For example, on February 20th at 10:05 a.m. in the FCC Seminar Room, a speaker will discuss the current impact and importance of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires as well as what the fires entail for the future and the climate crisis. After school, members of the club regularly take part in composting cafeteria waste, which so far has resulted in over 2,000 pounds of food waste being properly disposed of instead of going to the landfill. The leaders and participants of the club strive to spread awareness and incorporate ‘greener’ ways into an everyday lifestyle. Sustainability Club meets every Thursday at 10:05 a.m. in the Seminar Room. Stop by if you want to learn more about how to be sustainable and how to make our community more environmentally friendly!
