A Bittersweet Goodbye to our Editor: JB

Updated: Sep 10, 2020

When we first came to FCS and started working with the school’s newspaper we were immediately impressed by the exuberant energy of the youngest of its three editors-in-chief.  Here was this new sophomore, still relatively green to the upper school experience, but boldly stepping into a leadership position to help shape a valuable part of the school community.  JB’s voice grew considerably as he became the sole editor-in-chief the following year, and he was able to take more of the reins. Through his ambitious vision and his tireless efforts, JB helped to transform the paper, developing its organizational structure, adding members through recruitment, and increasing its publication schedule. This year, JB has stewarded the paper through another transformation, setting up new leadership with Sophia David as his partnered editor-in-chief, assuring that the paper is in good hands when he leaves.  For his unflagging commitment to providing the school community with the best paper possible, we thank you, JB! We will miss your enthusiasm for all that’s fit to print (and even some things that aren’t : ). Best of luck to you in all you do, JB! -Mr. Soper and Ms. Dickerson

JB,

Thank you so much for all you did for Focus and for helping me to take on the role of being an editor. For the past four years, your dedication and determination has made Focus so productive and fun.  From your creative titles to your purple pens, you helped to build Focus into the paper it is today! I really appreciate all of the tips and the advice you have given me. Thank you especially for the Tuesday communities that you spent teaching me and Natalie how to use the Focus website. We will all miss your constant enthusiasm, jokes, and energy. I am excited to continue being the editor-in-chief for Focus next year, but it definitely won’t be the same without you. Good luck with everything after high school! - Sophia
